Caleb,
You got many of them correct. I hope some others will post their answers as well.
Caleb, you have such a great memeory. I know you could come up with some great trivia questions of our time at Faith.
I just threw these few questions together to get us started. I would love for all of us to add trivia questions ranging from Kindergarten - Senior Year. If you do come up with some good trivia make sure you send them to Tammy.
Thanks Gigi. Unfortunately, my memory's not what it used to be--all a part of aging and having kids you know :) I'll try to rack my brains for some additional trivia questions.
-Caleb
I know Caleb got #1 & 2 right. As far as Outdoor Ed: 6th grade was Taal Volcano, 7th grade was Bataan/Corrigidor, and 8th grade was Baguio.
Melanie

Hi Caleb. Hello Gigi. It has been a very, very long time. I actually may still have a recording of an elementary musical with an international theme that was performed in 79 or 80. If I remember correctly, Laci Sarmiento sang a Hawaiian themed song, Roger Ferris sang a rock song with back up singers dancing in front of a cardboard jeepney. Michael McKinney and Jodi De La Pena sang a duet about love (go figure). I myself sang a song partially in German but have never forgiven Miss Sorensen for making me wear a pointed felt hat, brown lederhosen and yellow striped knee socks. (No offense to Claudia)
I will see if I can find the recording.
By the way Caleb, getting back to the argument nearly 28 years later that you, myself, Laci and Matthew Ma would have on an almost daily basis... I still think that Daimos can kick Mazinger Z's butt, however, I would have to concede that Voltes V would take them both apart.
Take care.
Scott
Scott,
I agree with you on Daimos and Voltes V. I remember having many debates on that subject matter :)
Was it your dad who was the PE teacher at Faith?
Vernel
Yes he was a middle school science teacher our first year but then he went into administration of some sort. He may have taught PE that first year as well as science. Teachers wore many hats back then. He was definitely involved with intramural sports and he coached soccer.

Hi Scott,
It has been a long time!
Yes, I remember the debate about the robots. I would have to agree that Voltes V would have been the last one standing.
-Caleb
Hi Laci,
Yes, I thought Jeanne was there as well.
#9 - Miss Swerienga but I don't remember what her belief was regarding the 2nd coming.
#11 - Mr. Abelman
#15 - Sir Oliver's Song (what Scott described). I can't remember who I was, though.
-Caleb
Hello Scott,
What a thrill to hear from you. I remember we were good friends in 1st grade. In fact my mother has a scapbook that has a couple of "love letters" that we wrote to each other in first grade. They are a hoot with tons of spelling errors!
In Sir Oliver's Song I actually was one of the German dancers while you sang the solo. I don't remember who else was in that scene with us....I know I have pictures that I will have to find.
I am so glad you have been "found". Any thoughts if you will be able to make it to the reunion?
~Gigi
Laci,
The Ross twins were with us in Kindergarten? I had forgotten that. I remember that Tanya Esterbrooks was there as well and Jeanne Rider.
Laci, how could I forget the time Miss Hunt hit me and told me to sit with that dead bird out in the hall. I was horrified...not of the dead bird, but that she hit me! You know she did ask for forgiveness from me 5 years later when I was a freshman. She told me 5 years later that she was going through bad culture shock and was not handling the stress well at all. By the way...you're welcome for taking the fall for all of you! LOL :o)
9. Who was our 9th grade biology teacher?
Wasn't it Mr. Waterman? I know I had him as a teacher my freshman year....what did he teach?
I do know that Ms. Miss Swerienga was our bible teacher. Remember you could get extra credit if you could say all the books of the Bible in one breath?
10. Who did Mr. Kelback marry?
Ms. Killen our elementary librarian.
11. Name our elementary principal?
I know that in 5th grade we had a new principal. He was a very heavy set man. His wife was the one who was in charge of directing us in Sir Oliver's Song. I can't remember his name though.
15. Our 5th grade musical and our part?
Sir Oliver's Song. I was one of the German dancers.
I think the musical our 10th gr. year was pirates of penzance (or however you spell it) :/

vernel! i bow down to you and your knowledge of the pinoy violent cartoon schedule on 2 chanels even way to over acheive again (far end boy) i didn't think i could even spell makanda robot right. damn you're good go to your class website. lol j/k
gigi - my love, one legged waterman taught world civ. sweringa was given bible for a while b/c they had a bio teacher but her true training was in biology which she later taught in 10th grade.
That was my first business venture: 2 pesos for a colored drawing of Voltes V, and 1 peso for ink only. I collected 26 pesos from you guys, sold about 4 drawings, then one of the teachers (Miss Allison?) said it was illegal due to copyright infringements. Somehow I pocketed all the money and didn't refund anyone back. Hmmmm... so how much do I owe folks after 30 years, with interest?
laci said...
v - i think if i had one of your posters it would be worth a ton of money. I actually became an artist myself but still cannot draw as good as you, who can??? besides your dad and walter.
I remember the day that selling priveledge was taken away from you - i was there.
you're a better business man than i was, i was renting out my game and watches (parachute and octopus) for 0.10 centavos a time. oh and lets see 2 pesos at a average 7-8% per year over 30 years of compounding interest... one milllion dollars!
Laci- Thanks for remembering the artwork. BTW, my class website is down, so I'm trying my hand at this trivia. LOL, when McDonald's came out a few months back with Game-&-Watch with their kid's meals, I pointed out to my kids that this was daddy's "Gameboy" growing up (and an expensive toy at that time)... now it's free.
Laci said…
V… its amazing how far game technology has come, the original game & watches were made by Nintendo. A couple years ago, “they” came out with the old Atari game controllers with all the technology contained in the controller that you can hook up direct to your tv with just a few AA batteries, I bought several of them and gave them out as gifts. Gave one to Nate York on his wedding day in Alaska. Speaking of which… check out the organization and work Nate founded and continues to do - I would highly endorse everyone to give their support to this organization.

Vernel,
I think there was one other robot show on Saturday called Geta Robot but I am not quite sure. Does that sound familiar?
Gigi,
I am not sure about the reunion yet but thank you for the invitation. At the moment I am just trying to wade through the flood of memories created by all these familiar names. It is rather overwhelming.
Laci,
So good to hear from you. Like I told Gigi, the memories triggered by all these names are simply overwhelming. I remember our family spending the last two nights in the Philippines at your house. I cried all night because I didn't want to go back to America and we had to leave Major with your family. Leaving was awful.
But yes, I do remember your out of control birthday party. Your Dad was very scary when he was mad. I will write more tomorrow in your individual post.

#26: Four-color BIC pens.
#27: "Planting rice is never fun. Bend from morn' til the setting sun. Cannot stand and cannot sit, cannot rest for a little bit."
#25. "Serial Time" was my favorite part of the day. I remember everyone relaxing on the carpet while we listened to Ms. Au/McDonald, Ms. Kalell, etc. read books like Over See Under Stone, A Wrinkle In Time or Charlotte's Web.
Laci - regarding my last few nights in Manila, I responded in your personal post to keep this section more trivia related.
We should start another post about the food, favorite restaurants, etc. I would give just about anything for some fresh pandesol and a Mirinda Orange.
Scott
Talking about serial time. Do any of you remember a book that was read to us, I think by Miss Poet in about a boy who took some tin cans and made himself a robot. Then the robot came to life?
I loved this book and have always wanted a copy for my own. Does anyone remember the title of the book?
Scott: I do remember A Wrinkle in Time and Charlotte's Web being read to us. We would hang on every word...and they knew just when to stop for the day to leave us hanging and wanting them to read more. I in turn did the same thing when I taught for 12 years with my students. Island of the Blue Dolphins is great book that I read to my 5th graders.
scott, gigi:
I always remember Miss Kalell because her last name is superman's first name (yes, I'm a nerd) and she also taught us human anotomy in 3rd/4th grade where we had to glue on parts of the body on the cartoon picture, and Gigi could not stop laughing about glueing that "karabow head" shaped organ that just went right below the small intestines.
-ah the memories!
do you guys remember the candy count contests everyweek. I don't think I ever got the trophey
I don't remember that actual anatomy event, but I do remember getting the giggles over the craziest things. I still have this problem. :o) My husband loves nothing better than to get me in the fits of giggles at the most inappropriate times. He thinks it is funny the way I try to keep still and quiet.
Didn't Ms. Kallel have to go home to the states in the middle of our school year because she got sick then her lung collapsed?
does anyone remember our sixth grade teacher name tall blonde short hair. (co-taught with alyson???)
laci
Hey does anyone know what happened to Mike Prigodich (sp?) he was the short guy who came in 6th grade - played drums and piano really well. I think him and tom jacobs were friends. - his parents were missionaries in kenya. I had alot of funny talks with him.
laci
Gigi - I believe the book title is Andy Buckram's Tin Men written by Carol Ryrie Brink. Great book.
Ms. Kallel's anatomy chart was one of those moments where the teacher was trying desperately not to loose control. Her face was crimson, lips tightly closed and looking anywhere but at the student's faces or that hilarious chart. She was about to explode with laughter (as we all were)
Laci: the blonde teacher in 6th grade was Miss VanOrman. I will never forget her. She was new and was a runner thus her body was very muscular and lean, She also had very hairy arms. The reason I go into so much detail about how she looked is that one of us (not me) had just come back from the States and told the class at lunch that they were doing this new surgery in the States where they could change a man into a woman.
We were so convinced that Miss VanOrman had had that surgery! We really did......not as a joke but for real. Does anyone remember this?
I remember I finally told my parents about this gender changing operation, that one of our classmates told us about, and that as a class we had figured out that she had gone through this procedure. My parents did try to convince me that they didn't believe that she had this operation…but I don’t think I was ever convinced otherwise. Wern't we a mess! LOL
Years later my parents told me they about died laughing.
Scott: Thank you, thank you! I have searched and tried to find the title of that book for over 10 years.. I will try to order this and read it and see if it the same book that I remember! Did you just know this off the top of your head or did you research it?
I can't believe you guys remember so much from elementary. I started at Faith in third grade, so was around for much of what you're talking about and I have very little recollection of it. Either I have a bad memory or I wasn't paying much attention in school. I do remember being a privileged "Far End" student. I loved going there. I saw Miss Hunt last June and she's doing well. She's married now. I remember going to your house Gigi for a pretty big birthday party. Didn't you live near Cardinal Sin? Does anyone remember Mr. Foster, our high school class sponsor, or whatever it was called. He'd walk around pulling an empty milo can on a string. I wasn't in any of the musicals or plays, but I do remember I thin in 8th grade we did some JOhnny Appleseed musical and for some reason I had a little solo (I can't sing) and it was horrible. I almost pulled the wall of the house down when I walked through the door. I wonder who's been back the most recent. I was there in April 2006. the place is so different. There's a fence around the entire property, with spot lights and barbed wire. Looks a bit like a prison when you're approaching it from afar. I guess security has become a big issue. Also, the big swimming complex on the right just as you reach the top of the hill and take the left onto the main part of campus (going straight would go down the hill to a dorm with the playground on your left) is amazing. I remember hanging out on that hill (I forget what we called it) in high school. The neat thing is that the circle still feels the same, so memories hanging out there for lunch or at night (I was a dormie, after all, so spent more time on campus than most). Anyone remember what movie we watched on Senior Skip Day and who's house we were at? Also, who spoke at graduation and what was the topic and who spoke at baccaleureate. Also, where did we go for our senior trip? These days the senior classes go to Boracay!
Melody (Harrison) Currier
14. Miss Waldenmaier taught English. Do you remember the day our class made her cry? We were awful sometimes. Miss Graham taught social studies I think. I don't remember math!
17.Didn't Jeanne Rider's mom work as school nurse for a while?
Was it Mr. Pearson's office that we "moved" to the circle our senior year?
I have absolutely no recollection of sho spoke at Graduation or Baccalaureate. I do remember who I walked with and how sad it was to say goodbye to everyone.
Who in our class has been known to drive down EDSA backwards?
LACI SAID....
ok... gigi thanks so much, I kept thinking about her name and saying "Miss Vallencourt.." no, thats tammy's name. Yes! Vanormer. I remember that whole discussion. She was a runner I think, anywho the reason I asked is because she had a strange superhuman trick that she would do while she read to us during serial time... does anyone remember??
sorry, I have to give the answer now... she used to stick her long tongue out and rub the tip of her nose with it. no. it was not attractive. she also used to stir her coffee/tea with whatever writing instrument she had at the time.
(goodness gracious, do you think the old faculty is going to read this site???)
MELODY!
HI. SUICIDE HILL was the final hill we had to run up for cross country training.
I was just telling my sister how our class used to do alot of things together apart from a school activities. skate town, pizza hut, bowling, movies, tia maria, peoples condo pools, etc. I remember watching "Blood Sport" with alot of people also "Empire in the Sun".. long movie about the boy lost in the war. We actually went to my house for a little bit on skip day, but could have been somewhere else.
Mr. Pearson was the main speaker for graduation for us, but Mr. clinton said a few words (i don't know why) but i remember what he said... our class had 45 graduating and we had the same amount of legs as a centapede or something like that since he collected insects. don't have fond memories of mr. clinton since he yelled at us in cross country while we ran - he was on his motor cycle and we would breath in the exhaust. and we all saluted to Mr.... (our bible teacher????) as we walked by. jeanne rider and I also spoke for grad.
Meleanie... Miss MAGGARD taught math, Miss cooper? taught in the next room next to miss graham. Miss cooper later married short PE guy.
And really did anyone of us really have the right to drive??? I would guess eddie driving backwards.
28. What does EDSA stand for?

i haven't been back to the PI since 89. I had major immigration problems, i'm still a pinoy citizen but i do have a green card thanx to my wonderful spouse!!!

29. laya sologa's "KLIM" commercial
30. the milo song
31. pure foods hot (gotta love those "red" dogs -used to stain the buns lol)
32. dialog for "I take enervon every day"
33. white castle wiskey "I'm taking white castle wiskey back to the states with me"
34. san migel beer song

28: Epifanio De los Santos Avenue = EDSA
30: "Go, go, go, drink Milo. Go, go, go, drink Milo, Milo. Go for Olympic energy, drink Milo, Milo, Milo!"
31: "Tender, juicy, tasy, just right to the bite. That's the purefoods hotdog!" My wife was in either the Purefoods or Swifts commercial when she was younger. I didn't know it until I was singing the Swifts jingle a few years back and she pointed it out. That one goes: "Let's get together with Swifts... for bacon and ham, hotdog and sausage, let's get together with Swifts!"
34: "Mag beer muna tayo... sa San Miguel beer, nag ka-isa, mag beer muna tayo!"
Hey I do still remember the robots... I used the Sky Flakes square can for the body.
Of course I remember making the tin can robots!!! That was one of my favorite projects,
I remember praying that maybe God would allow mine to come to life like the boy in the story. :O) Oh for child-like faith!
Melody: I have some great pictures of you taken in 8th and 9th grade that will help you with your memory! They were mostly silly pictures of you, Shellie Brough, and I.
Melody: you should know the answer to trivia question #23 as you and your brother were with me in this class together. :O)
~Gigi
23. Was that Mr. Kielobach for Physical Science in grade 9. That and geometry were the only two classes I had with my brother, as far as I remember. I know he was always embarrassed to have his little sister in a class with him. gigi, I have several pictures of us in the circle with Shellie and some other guy that was in the class ahead of ours, but I don't remember his name.
I didn't number my trivia questions, but yes, Mr. Pearson spoke at graduation (topic was the 10 commandments, not sure why I remember that) and my Dad spoke at BAccaleuriate. I remember watching Raising Arizona on senior skip day, but don't remember who's house it was at. Don't think it was yours Laci. But for some reason I have this memory of watching Lady and the Tramp at your house at some point??? I don't remember the robots at all. The staircase by the choir room is no longer used - there's a wall at the top, so now it's just that big long staircase you mentioned Gigi. Do you remember eating the uncooked chicken at Tall for outdoor ed. Wasn't our Bible teacher Mr. Ruth and then someone new from Virginia, starts with an S and he a daughter a couple of years younger than us. I was just telling the kids in my Sunday school class this morning that I wanted to teach them how to say all the oT books in one breath -remember Miss Swieringa teaching us that. Can anyone still do it. Gigi, maybe you shouldn't try right now, wait til after the baby's born.
Melody
Every year at our children's camp I start by doing the NT books in one breath, then OT books only, and finally all the Bible books. Don't know how much longer my lungs will hold out! I've tried to get the kids to even just READ, in one breath, the books in Bible...they don't seem to have much incentive to practice.

Melody,
Yes, I do remember eating that uncooked chicken at Taal. We did a good job at killing the poor thing but not the cooking. I have several pictures of us camping there.
Funny that you mentioned the one breath ot/nt books of the Bible drill...I was just telling my husband about that and he asked me if I could still do it. And I could! Too funny!
Melody, we sure had some fun times sitting in the circle at lunch time, you and Shellie and I. We sure could get into some fits of laughter! :o)
Do you remember that one day that we hung out at Green Hills (I think we went to the movies) then ate at an ice cream shop that you sat on saddles? We then went over to McDonalds and pretended we had a car and "drove" through the drive-thru and ordered our food? We even acted like we had to roll the windows down to order. The poor people who worked there didn't know what to think of us. :o)
***************
Not sure what question it was, but the question of who drove backwards down Edsa?
My guess would be Eddie Merritt. He was the only one I knew who drove...he drove me home from a Chior function our freshman year.
FOOD NEWS:
This past weekend I came upon a small oriental grocery store. As it turned out the owners were Filippino!
They have everything we need for our Filippino meal (lumpia, frozen calamansi juice, pancit noodles, and YES they do have frozen pandesol bread that we can bake.
FYI - DARRIN CLARK IS ALIVE AND WELL!
I'm having lunch with him tomorrow (10/4, Thurs)
- Laci
Great! Try to get his contact information so that we can keep everything current and can send them the latest news on the reunion.
Thanks.
Mr. Scharf taught Bible our Sr. year. His daughter Andrea was a year behind us.
Thanks Aimee for remembering Mr. Sharf's name.
Gigi- I remember that time in Greenhills. Mainly because after we "drove" through the window at McDonald's, I threw up and we had to go inside to use the bathroom. It was rather embarrassing.
Melody,
LOL! I forgot about you getting sick not long after that. You probably got sick from the ice cream shop that we ate at earlier! Hee Hee.

hey do you all remember how they used to play the same american shows over and over on tv?? we would only get a certain amount in a series and then it would repeat. Like the bugs bunny cartoons.
I've been looking up some old movies that I remember on channel 9 that they showed on "Morning Theater" who remembers:
"Omega Man" with charlton heston (last man on earth with precious blood fighting against strange zombie people.
also: "Where have all the poeple gone?" after a holocost few people are left on earth and finding bodies turnned into salt.
how about the john trovolta movie "boy in the bubble"
who also remembers how certain movies released in the Philippines were given different names to help market it better for viewing:
"a night on the town" = adventures in baby sitting
"future cop" = Trancers
"alliens from the deep" = Deep Star 6
any other funny ones you remember???
Yes, I didn't realize it at the time, but they did change a lot of the movie names. If you go to IMDB.com, many of the movies are marketed under a different title specifically for the Philippines. Don't know why they need to do that.
I do remember "The boy in the bubble movie" and "Where have all the people gone". At easter time they would also show great easter movies every year....there was about 4 of them that were really good but for the life of me I can't remember their names right now. :o(
the voltez 5 fist episode is available for viewing on youtube! - enjoy!
I have the whole Voltes V series on 20 Video Discs from eBay... if anyone wants spoilers about how it ends (we never saw it as kids), I'll post a summary!
Hey Laci,
This is Mike Prigodich. I live in Portland, Oregon metro area with my wife and two kids (ages 3 and 5). I'm currently a software QA test engineer for HP (after doing IT work for several different companies including Enron). I play piano/keyboards and electric bass in various settings, as well as composing and arranging jazz, funk, gospel, rock, etc. I went to Wheaton College (majored in Philosophy but should have majored in computer science) with Roger Ferris, Arlene Schwenk, and Michelle Fast.
From Mike Prigodich:
Scratch that. I think I'm confusing Michelle Fast with someone that had a similar name in college.
Mike!! post a blog send a picture!!! good to hear from you!

Hi Caleb,
In an FA Forum I once read something about being able to view older Tiwalans in PDF. I found the link listed on several sites but the link is no longer active. Are you familiar with this online Tiwalan project? Does it still exist? Thanks.
Scott B
Hi Scott,
Yes, it used to exist and I tested it at one time but from what I can tell, the Faith website was revamped a bit and the new webmaster has taken it down. There is a alumni area where if you register you can get a password for it but I didn't see in it there.
Caleb
Thanks Caleb. Too bad it isn't operating right now. It would have been fun to see.
Another question, and this is for anyone that might know... There use to be a Word of Life summer camp that rented/leased space in a coconut grove owned by Mounds Corporation or something. It was in the middle of nowhere. Does anyone remember where it was located and if is still operating? My sister is going back to the Philippines this summer and was interested in seeing that area again. The landscape was breathtaking.
Thanks
Scott
I called my mother, but she couldn't remember the location of Word of Life. Sorry.
~Gigi
Mike P. can you get Robert Schwenk's info from ARlene? He's on our MIA list? I never went to the Word of Life camp, but heard it was a great spot. I just had dinner with my elementary dorm parents on Saturday - the Van der Laak's. Hadn't seen them in over 20 years. It was a great time exchanging stories. Need to be able to talk about things as adults and understand a bit more the struggles of being dorm parents.
That Word of Life camp was awesome! I still remember all the tricks they did with all the different tops. I had a blast there.
Here's a link to the Word of Life camp in Calauan, Laguna. This links to the photo page of the facilities:

Hey, by the way, I was actually in Kindergarten with Claudia, Jodi, Gigi, Mike and Caleb. I think Roger Ferris might have been in kinder too. I had the BIGGEST crush on Karen McKinon!
LOL
