Class DVD

Dear Class,

I am offering to put together a special DVD picture slide show for our class. This is not just for the reunion but also for you who can not come but would like to make an “appearance”. This will be a great way to share what has been happening in our lives since we graduated.

I NEED YOUR HELP! Please in the next month or so, during your spring cleaning (?), dig out old photo albums and picture discs. Please provide up to 5 photos per graduate to span the years from ’88 to ‘08. Include things like college graduation, or military training class pictures, wedding pictures, new family additions, and any other pictures of major milestones in your life that you would like to share. Or if anything at all, a recent picture would be great! Schedule one this Easter!!

If the picture is of a specific event such as college graduation, please include the name of the school you graduated from and the date of the event. Same thing for wedding pictures – please provide your spouse’s name and the date of the event. For family additions give the name of the child and their date of birth. Any other events please state a description and date for the event.

Your participation is what will make this meaningful!

In addition to your pictures covering the 20 years since graduation if you have good quality photos from your time at FAITH please share those too – especially those of you who may have pictures that date back into the elementary school grades and pictures that may include beloved teachers. Please provide an approximate date/grade for the photo and if it was from. If it has multiple class members (such as a playground picture) point out any that were part of the graduating class. There’s no limit to number of pictures here—the more the better!

I will keep track of all original photos so they can be returned to you. Of course, any that can be provided in electronic form as jpeg or tiff are preferred. But please keep the resolution higher around 1MB each rather than trying to reduce the size for email. Please don’t send slides or negatives.

Email electronic copies to

tanya underscore charfauros at tsco dot org
Snail mail hard copies of photos to:
Tanya Charfauros
9606 Cornwall Dr
Huntington Beach, CA 92646
(include USA if you are posting from outside the US)

Cutoff date: I need to receive all photos by April 30, 2008.

The more of us that participate the better the final product will be making it a meaningful memento for everyone regardless of whether or not you are attending the reunion.

If you have some favorite tunes from the ‘80s please suggest any song or artist names for us to use as music bed for the photo montage. Christian and non-Christian music suggestions are welcome. We lived our lives to the music of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Duran-Duran and Van Halen as well as Petra, Amy Grant, and Michael W. Smith so we want to be as inclusive as possible and try to use songs that were especially meaningful to us.

I’ll be sending out reminders periodically over the next month. If you do not care to participate just drop me a quick email and I won’t bother you any more.

Thanks in advance and I hope to get a great response from everyone!
~Tanya (Parlier) Charfauros

Kylie Furler Paskett

God has blessed me with 7 beautiful children. Daniel is nearly 18, Amy is 16, Rebekah is nearly 15, Joel is 13, Joshua is 11, Isaiah is 9 and Aaron is 8 now. They are beautiful!! On Saturday October 6 I married my boyfriend of 2 1/2 years, Nathan.
We live in a small town in South Australia now. Nathan (who is American actually) is a police officer and I am still a stay at home Mum. Being a second marriage for both of us we really cherish the time we have together and because Nate works shift work we can see more of each other if I'm not working outside the home as well. Besides, with all these kids, there's always plenty for me to do!
Daniel is now in 12th grade and coming top of his class. His final exams are in November (school year here is Jan-Dec with summer over Christmas). He starts University next year. He is in France at the moment with my Dad. He won a trip for 2 for 5 days, on a website...very lucky!! They are having a wonderful time together!
Amy is nearly finished 11th grade and doing very well. She has a lovely boyfriend who we see quite a lot of these days. She is talking about becoming a teacher when she finishes school.
Rebekah is in 9th grade. She has a beautiful heart and loves spending time with both her friends and family. She is a bookworm and loves writing and drawing.
Joel is nearly finished 7th grade. He goes to high school next year (that's year 8-12). He does very well at school and is now taller than his Mum!
Joshua is in 5th grade. He loves doing Math and anything to do with numbers. He loves insects and bugs and can tell you lots of interesting facts about them.
Isaiah is in 3rd grade. He is the noisy one and does everything with lots of energy! He does really well at school and has lots of friends (equally noisy most of the time :) ) He loves cooking with Nate.
Aaron, our baby, is in second grade. He is our cuddly one! He loves school and swimming. He has a best friend who he spends lots of time with.

Marengo Cave Walking Tour

Website: http://www.marengocave.com/groups/walking_tours.php

Description: The lady that I spoke to said it was a very child friendly place. They do not allow strollers into the cave, but you can use front carriers for the young ones.

Marengo Cave has been amazing visitors since its discovery in 1883! Discover the stunning beauty of this National Landmark! Marvel at the massive flowstone deposits and the delicate soda straw formations.

Friendly and knowledgeable interpreters guide you each step of the way. Their well-lit, easy walking tours can be enjoyed by individuals and groups of all ages.

Location: It will take us about 1 hour and 5 minutes to get there.

For Lunch: They do not have a restaurant there, only a snack bar that sells vending machine food items. We would have to bring our own picnic lunch that we could get Subway to cater for us. We can reserve a shelter for free for lunch.

There are two walking tours that we can choose from:

Crystal Palace (a 35-40 minute tour)
Admission: $10.00 per person/$5.50 for 12 and under/free for children 3 and under
Description: This easy tour winds its way through formation-filled rooms and past huge flowstone deposits. You'll take a seat in our Crystal Palace room and enjoy a video presentation of the cave's discovery.

Dripstone Trail (a 70 minute tour)

Admission: $11.00 per person/$6.00 for 12 and under/free for children 3 and under

Description: Known for its profusion of delicate soda straw formations and slender totem pole stalagmites, this one mile tour takes approximately 70 minutes. Its unique Penny Ceiling is a favorite with all ages.

What else they offer: Along with the cave tour or for those who do not want to take the cave tour you can enjoy a playground, a nice big gift shop, a wrap around porch with many rocking chairs to sit on, nature trails to explore, a cave simulator (a man-made crawling devise that lets you experience what it is like to crawl in tight places in caves without getting dirty and wet), or you might enjoy gem mining where you can purchase sacks of sand to pour out in their gem mining water area.

Laci Sarmiento

I have been living in Kansas City for the last 7 years - Overland Park, Kansas

I've been trying to get a picture of my whole family and I just have this silly one of me and the kids messing around at the zoo. Aidan (9) on right and micah (6) in the middle. They are a true joy!!!
Lisa is a nurse in a women's health practice (obgyn) she is now a nurse manager for the practice (Lisa and I met when we were 19 she was/is best friends with Sarah Westerhof from michigan- Faith Academy class of 89). I've been working my tail off at a commercial real estate company since we moved here. Lisa has two sisters in town who all moved here from Michigan. Lori (my sister) moved here just going on 2 years now (she was living in Oklahoma for a while) she is remarried with her 3 original kids and one new one with her husband Walt Disney. Yes Walt Disney she is now Lori Disney - yes, they are distantly related to the mouse and no ... no free tickets.

Well its been nice reading up on people and sending quick notes soo good to hear from you all and glad you are doing well. I'm still deciding whether or not to go to the reunion but I may since someone told me I could drive there from here.
peace love joy

Dave and I live 20 minutes apart in the San Gabriel Valley. I'm in Arcadia, CA and Dave lives in Glendora, CA.
We're both married, I'll let Dave tell you about his family. If he ever logs onto the site!
My wife, Charmayne, is a Pediatric Physical Therapist. I work for Bank of the West as a financial analyst based in Los Angeles.
We do not have any kids but do have a few animals to help take up our time. Dog, cat and a 50 yr old desert tortoise that comes when he's called.
I'll try to post something more detailed and with pictures next time.
Hope to be able to make it out to the reunion in June of 2008.

Tabitha, Avala Grace 3, Aza (Ayzuh) Joy 1, and I are living in Santa Barbara CA. We were married in 1997 and other than a year of traveling together, we have lived in this beautiful beachside city. Tabitha worked as a high school English teacher at Santa Barbara High School until we had kids. She is a track runner and I try not to ever race against her. I work at Westmont College as the mens tennis coach and teach p.e. courses and also run a tennis club in SB where I teach private lessons. We are loving being parents and I try to take as much time off work as I can to be with the girls. Avala and Aza were both born at home in our bedroom and are thriving. Avala is a chatterbox and loves to run and tricycle. Aza is learning how to walk and talk, holding onto things. Their smiles and hugs make my day. I am a beach volleyball fanatic (watch out Landry) these days and get out every chance I get. I just started taking an art class one night a week. I read some, anyone read the kite runner (good book). I have missed our reunions and will try my best to make this one. 20 years, wow.

Tom Jacobs

Hola - Tom Jacobs here. This is an updated version of the post I placed on the old forum site, so forgive me if you've read part of it before.

So, a bit about me to refresh your memory. My sister Heather and I were the only Catholic students at Faith during my entire 3 years there. My parents were working with YWAM. The summer before my senior year we moved to Davao so I didn't graduate at Faith.

What else? I played Charlie Dalrymple in Brigadoon for the musical our Sophomore year, which meant I had to (got to) kiss Christa Fuller during the wedding scene (has anyone heard from her?). I played Anselmo, the guitar-playing bandit in Man of La Mancha our junior year (Melany Maness, "Dulcinea", are you still reading this forum?). What a great show that was - does anyone have a VHS copy of it? I know they filmed it.

Craig Butler - I remember you beating out Paul Waterman to make Class President our (I think) sophomore year, and that you did your campaign speech to the music of Steve Taylor's "Meltdown". Where is Paul anyway? Found an old email address but no response from there.

Leah Bigelow - I remember you dressed so nicely with a purple ribbon in your hair when we did the Christmas Concert ("Sleigh Ride" and "Night Before Christmas" come to mind). I had a crush on you and even asked you out at that choir and band training camp we all went to up in the mountains...but alas it was not to be. I actually still think of you because the last I remember is that you were ill and had to leave, and I wondered how you were.

Me - For 15 years I've been a 911 paramedic working on an Advanced Life Support ambulance in various systems. I started in Oregon, spent a two-year tour in Saudi Arabia (government, not military), then lived and worked in California for 6 years. I worked in Oakland, then in Monterey County, and lived on a horse ranch I owned with a (platonic) friend.

I have 4 horses - 3 Morgan mares and an Appy stud colt. I call them the Four Horses of the Apocalypse. (Horses became something of a passion of mine during my early 20's.) Still doing music when I can, actually working on music for a soon-to-be released computer game called LinkRealms. I write and record music when I can, played on a couple CD's that were released regionally. Still (happily) single.

The travel bug still bites on occasion - I spent 2004-2006 in Iraq as the medical officer for a company that was rebuilding infrastructure there. When I returned I came home and spent my savings building a log home on 15 acres right on the Columbia River (Rainier, OR). I'm now working offshore in Kazakhstan (month on/month off) as the medical officer for an oil rig. I'll be joining a seismic vessel in the Gulf of Mexico in October for the same type of rotational work, and working at my ambulance service part-time during my weeks home. I'll continue this type of work while I rebuild my savings in preparation for my next educational venture, PA school. Then I may settle down!

On a sad note, it was only while browsing through the old Forum that I discovered Mr. Hyde had been killed in 2003. As someone who has been very close to terrorist attacks in the past, the manner of his death was particularly troubling.

Sorry for the long post, tried to keep things summarized as much as possible. I have fond memories of many of you. If you're interested, there are pics of my house, horses, and travels on my website,
http://www.stablez.com/coppermine.

I'd love to make the reunion, but I think I may be rotated out on both those dates. I'll do my best, though.

My personal email address is Equus911(at)pacbell(dot)net.

Keith Lynip, Redux

Well, since my last post, I've accepted a new position at the University of Montana. I'll be their director of UM Online, their online learning entity. We're moving out to Missoula this summer, and once established would be happy to have visitors. It's a beautiful part of the country.

Aimee, not sure of our route west, but if it happens to take us through Rochester, MN, it would be great to stop in and see you and your family.

Jonathan Wilson

Hi again folks,

Just a quick update to say that I have been developing my business as a leadership/organizational consultant here in Canada. You can see my website at www.soulsystems.ca, which has a blog too: www.soulsystems.ca/soulsearching.html.

Blessings,
Jonathan

Hi there:

It's great to see this site up and see old faces and friends. I was an O Levels student (all those stuffy Brits) and a dorm kid (what's fashion?) and an IJ kid (there is a missing link after all!). I left for the UK in 87, where I lived for five years and did a degree in photography, with the intention of becoming a globe-trotting photo-journalist. I think I just wanted to escape the UK.

I moved to Canada in '92, following my parents here. I did an MDiv in Intercultural studies and some pastoral work before moving to South Africa in 1998 to work with African Enterprise. My first two years in SA were spent primarily in political mediation and community dialogue in areas of violent conflict. From 2000 on I trained and worked with leaders in business, government and churches throughout Africa, and became director of the Africa Leadership Development Institute. I also got great pleasure (and some good pagan friends) out of regularly competing in road cycling and mountain biking on the SA national circuit.

In '98 I met Tracey, a beautiful blue-eyed South African in whom I saw the Lord's joy and his heart for the marginalized and poor. Tracey is a chartered accountant and has done well in business and consulting. We married in 2000 and in Nov 2005 had Samuel. He has his mom's features and is therefore cuter than his dad.

Incidentally, in South Africa we developed a great friendship with missionaries Paul Siaki and his wife Barb (nee Winter).

The last two years have been crazy for us. In 2005 I was heavily involved in political advocacy work on a very public, high profile issue. After a lengthy process of considering an invitation for a job as CEO of the Canadian branch of a mission organization, we knew the Lord wanted us here in Toronto. However, months after starting I felt I had to challenge the board on some leadership issues and their response was to terminate me. I'm exploring various options: Christian and business organizations, or consulting in leadership and organizational development. We know God is up to something good in all this, but are still very much in a place of transition.

Last year we visited Faith and stayed with Steve and Rhonda Schwarze. A blessed time. What a great school.

Ciao – Jonathan

Amy Bellinger (nee Bast)

Hi all-
We are living in Rochester MN where Steve is a Jr. High youth pastor in an Ev. Free Church. We've been here for the past 4 years and love it. To back up a bit, after graduating from high school, I attended Columbia Intl. Univ. in SC where I got degrees in Elem. Ed and Bible. Steve and I also met and married there. We moved to FL and lived there for 6 years where I taught elem. and Jr. high until our first, Taryn (now 9 1/2) was born. Since then I have been a full-time mom as we have gradually made our way north via AR (Davin, now 7, born there), WI (Dana, now 4 1/2, born there), and now MN, where we will welcome our 4th child in June. Hopefully we will not be moving anymore, as 4 seems to be a good number.

Currently, I am back in school working on getting my RN, which will eventually lead to a masters in midwifery (CNM). I thought it would be good to round out my education a little so I can be more diversified. Other interests include volunteering for the handsomest Jr. high youth pastor in town as a Sunday School teacher for 6th and 7th grade girls, and my involvement with La Leche League as an accredited leader. I also played soccer with a women's league here in Roch. for a couple of years, and learned that my brain and body don't always agree on what I am able to do with a soccer ball, but it was fun. We also enjoy all the outdoor kinds of things that can be done in MN. Tons of bike and x-country ski trails, the Boundary Waters, North Shore of Lake Superior (canoeing, camping).
We'd love to have anyone passing through Rochester (Mayo clinic, IBM) stay with us.
Looking forward to the reunion next year.
~ Aimee

REUNION

IDEAS AND QUESTIONS
Please read the ideas and questions below purely as the beginning of us all freely sharing what we would love to do and experience at our 20th Reunion!

Of course, by me listing some ideas is by no means me trying to push the venue to be here....I just thought that while we are waiting for a majority vote...we can at least think about what we would like to have at our 20
th reunion. :0)

These were some ideas and questions I have thought of so far...we can go as large or as small as we want:

  1. Meet and Greet Night cookout/bonfire followed by a hayride.
  2. An idea for our banquet / dinner is we could have it outside under pretty tents in the evening when all the fireflies come out and light up the night. We could easily set up a sound system and we have a projector and screen we could use for any multimedia we prepare.
  3. Jonathan Adam's is a pastor right? If we are here on a Sunday, I thought we could have our own service here on the ranch if we wanted, with those of us who want to sing and play instruments do the music and have Jonathan or anyone for that matter speak...or we could have a time of open mike with us sharing what the Lord has done in our lives these past 20 years.
  4. We have a stocked pond full of fish so we could even have a catch and release contest.
  5. For the children we could even rent those bouncy blow-up things for them to play on and of course 40 acres for them to run amuck on (and I know some of my classmates real well that they too will enjoy just running amuck. ) LOL!
  6. We constantly have a breeze on our property so even kite flying would be fun, we don't currently have any horses but I know many who do and we might be able to swing some horseback riding on the ranch.
  7. An alumni talent show? Our children talent show?
  8. We even have a large barn...do the older kids want to have a "Barn Social"?
  9. If it does rain us out...my church is only 4 miles away and we could always change the venue to there.
  10. Do we want to do a ladies lunch thing and the guys have their own lunch thing?
  11. Food ideas could be a big cookout/BBQ and bonfire, a BIG Southern Breakfast one morning, a Filipino meal and than our banquet meal of some kind. Note: there are several of our mom's and Filipino missionaries that I know who live withing 9 hours of us, who might be able to be talked into coming and preparing the Filipino food...it would taste good and be much cheaper than getting catered. (Not sure how many Philippine restaurants there are in KY!)
  12. And of course there are all the fun tourist things to do in the area as well- Mammoth Caves, Louisville Slugger bat factory and museum, The Ali Museum Mohammad Ali, The Horse Experience at the Derby (an encounter with race horses and museum ) River boat ride on the Ohio River, Six Flags Amusement Park, Etc.
  13. Do we want to demonstrate to our children what a Chinese Fire Drill looks like? Do you remember we did this at our 10 year reunion in Dallas and Shellie Brough Zagone was 8 months pregnant. LOL!
  14. What are some things you would like to see happen either on the ranch venue or elsewhere?
  15. How many days do we want the reunion to be? Thurs evening-Sunday? What month in 2007?
Once we get an idea of what we would like to do and see happen at the reunion then we can divide up the work among those of us who love to help with things like this and conquer the different tasks...both big and small.
I can't wait to see what you all come up with!
~ Gigi

Caleb Ng

After graduating from Biola with my BS in Computer Science, I moved to San Diego and worked at a retail software firm as a programmer and also in hardware/network support for about eight years. During this time, I married my wife, Karla, whom I met at Biola. I then worked at a local school district in different positions. While there, I went back to school and completed my MS degree. I'm currently working at a local water authority in southern San Diego county as a Systems Analyst. We have a son, Trevor, who is two and also have two dogs. My wife works as a pediatric nurse at our local Children's Hospital part-time. We are involved in a local church serving as well as in a small group. We're looking forward to seeing you at the twenty-year reunion.

Tanya Charfauros (nee Parlier)

Hello everyone.
We're living in Huntington Beach, CA. Talia is a little over 15 months - so fun! I could never picture myself as a mother but boy, I am really enjoying this! I know I am blessed. I had her by natural water birth at home. What an experience! I highly recommend it! I am also working as a graphic designer. Ted works for a marketing company as an account manager for various car companies like SCION (Toyota), Kia and Mazda. He is also a gifted Dad! Twice a week Ted takes Talia for several hours so I can paint or go to dance class - to keep myself creative and sane.

Recently we had the scare of our life when Talia's pediatrician heard a large heart murmur at her 12 month check up. 2 weeks ago she had open heart surgery. I created a website for her if you'd like to read the journal before, during and after...see pictures etc. She is recovering at a shocking rate! You'd never guess that just 2 short weeks ago her little body was cut open, she was on a breathing machine and a heart/lung machine having open heart surgery. My baby's a strong little girl!

It's been really fun and good to see you all and read your stories. Thanks for taking the time to post! ~ Tanya
